Cardinals: A Pair of Drunkard's Path Quilts
Pattern: Drunkard’s Path
Date: c. 1900-1910
Provenance/Notes:
Two gorgeous classic red and white Drunkard’s Path quilts from the same family, that perhaps once graced the beds of siblings.
Like siblings, the quilts are similar at a glance, but have distinct differences upon closer examination. Both are in great condition for their age and made of turkey red fabric against white.
Their slight differences make them a really wonderful pair for a set of beds. Or keep one and share the other!
The first set of photos above are of ‘Sister #1” followed by “Sister #2".” Here are some of their distinctive qualities:
Sister #1
patchy corners
a thin medium weight
two tones of red (from two batches of fabric used which faded differently)
flower quilting
65"x 80"
Sister #2
a thin quilt
9-patch corners
feathered wreath quilting
70" x 82"
Maker/origin unknown
Washed by hand and in great condition, with just a few little marks as shown in the last photos of each set. Sister #1 has a touch of fabric wear long the trim on two sides.
Measurements: Sister #1 (pictured first) 75”x 82” / Sister #2 65” x 80”

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
