Antique Green Chimney Sweep Quilt with Indigo and Red Blocks

$0.00
sold

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core

-John Keats / from To Autumn

This quilt was a long time favorite of a seasoned quilt collector and dealer, who loved her for her incredible dimensionality, her blocks like stars twinkling against her rich background. Set against a beautifully faded green, the indigo and red album blocks do indeed pop. Just as delightful as her front is her stunning and unusual back, which is made of an 1890s festive floral bandana print fabric, which has been turned to make the trim. The fan quilting ripples throughout gives her a lovely texture. She is generously sized, medium in weight, and gorgeous on a bed. She has been washed by hand and is in great condition, with only the fading of the green to note and a few broken quilting threads. She is ready to bring joy to her new owner!

Measurements: 84” x 86”

$20 flat rate shipping includes insurance coverage for the full purchase amount.

All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards Tubman’s Hopetober campaign during domestic violence awareness month. Tubman provides safe shelter, legal services, mental and chemical health counseling, youth programming, and community education throughout the Twin Cities. See tubman.org for more information on their important work.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
