Waves of the Ocean Quilt

$0.00
sold

Come to the window, sweet is the night-air!
Only, from the long line of spray
Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling.

Matthew Arnold / from Dover Beach

All the jewel tones of the sea undulate through the waves of the stunning quilt. The colors and pattern bring the beauty of nature into your home and she’s not one you’ll tire of. Pieced and quilted masterfully with a beautiful assortment of calico fabrics, she’s a true heirloom piece. Her negative spaces are made of the sweetest dotted fabric, hand-quilted with triple lines! It’s hard to imagine the number of hours it must have taken to create this quilt. At 84 x 86 she would cover a queen bed nicely, and be a lovely topper to a king. She’s lightweight and in excellent condition for her one hundred plus years of age. 4 out of over 1,500 triangles have some wear and there is a very light water mark on one edge (see last photo).

Measurements: 84” x 86”

PLEASE SELECT SHIPPING FOR QUILT ($20), NOT FOR A SMALL QUILT PIECE ($8). ORDER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHIP OTHERWISE.

All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards the Tahiri Justice Center, a national non-profit organization that supports immigrant survivors of gender-based violence. See Tahiri.org for more on their work.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
