Peaks of Calico Quilt

$0.00
sold

Away, away,—to the mountains away,
Where the pine trees murmur and sway,
And the foamy waterfalls sing and spring
Over the boulders gray.

Ruby Archer / from Climbing Song

A graphic beauty, this antique quilt is beautiful for her oversized triangles and beautifully distributed fabrics. Deeper calicos and lighter shirtings alternate to create a vivid landscape, and her cream and orange flower binding adds a sweet touch. Her back is a soft creamy fabric. There is a curious sticker that has mostly worn off (probably from a wash) that may be a clue to her provenance, but the mystery still remains. She’s in excellent structural condition but does have a handful of stains, mostly on her front (although because of her strong coloring, not too noticeable). She’s not heavy but has a nice layer of batting and is a cozy piece to cuddle under. She’ll be a beautiful accent piece to any room and also photographs beautifully (for those of you who might care).

Measurements: 66” x 76”

PLEASE SELECT SHIPPING FOR QUILT ($20), NOT FOR A SMALL QUILT PIECE ($8). ORDER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHIP OTHERWISE.

All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards the Tahiri Justice Center, a national non-profit organization that supports immigrant survivors of gender-based violence. See Tahiri.org for more on their work.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
