Checkered Nine Patch Quilt
Pattern: Nine Patch
Date: c. 1900-1910
Provenance/Notes:
An absolutely delightful landscape of blues and browns made of a wide assortment of checkered and plaid fabrics in this Nine Patch. A rare collection of such fabrics in one quilt.
Take a look at some of the close-ups to appreciate the fabrics and their beautiful arrangement
Look at the closeups that focus on some of the squares that are pieced from multiple pieces of fabric.
Beautiful fan quilting around the border and concentric quilting within the blocks
The back is made of a natural muslin. This is a quilt with a pleasing hand — a woven cotton texture.
This quilt would be equally at home in a seaside cottage as it would in a modern setting.
Maker/origin unknown
Washed by hand and in overall very good condition with just one fabric present in four of the blocks that showed some thinning and was darned with coordinating brown thread. A bit of trim on one corner that has worn off and one blue fabric that shows some color transfer, mostly to the back. See last photo.
Measurements: 69” x 75”
15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards supporting the work of the Sewing Society at St. Joseph’s Children’s Home in Louisville, Kentucky, whose members use their sewing skills to raise money for the orphanage, both by creating fundraiser quilts and mending worn items. For more on their wonderful work, see https://sjkids.org/get-involved/sewing-society/

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
