Elizabeth's Irregular Nine Patch Quilt
Pattern: Irregular Nine Patch
Date: c. 1900-1920
Provenance/Notes:
A stunning quilt, where each block is a little masterpiece of color, set against an rich indigo background in a Streak-of-Lightning pattern
This is a rare quilt that comes with some wonderful provenance thanks to the New York Quilt Project spearheaded by the American Folk Art Museum. From the records we learn that this quilt was made by Elizabeth Baker Buck from Steuben County, New York and donated to the project by her great-grandaughter. Here is the direct link to this quilt in the quilt index that provides further information:
The back of the back of the quilt is a lovely red and white striped pattern and it is trimmed with a black and white gingham that can also be found in a couple of the blocks.
Though not heavy, this is a thicker quilt, lovely for the cooler months.
In very good condition with just a few places where quilting stitches have broken and a couple places with a bit of sun fade. See last photo.
Measurements: 72” x 85”
15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards supporting the work of the Tahiri Justice Center, a national, nonprofit organization that serves immigrant survivors fleeing gender-based violence, an organization we are now supporting for a third year in a row. Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
