a gorgeous heirloom quality quilt made by an expert quilter, initialed and dated “C. C. S. Feb 24 1870” in small red stitching in a corner of the quilt
finely dotted indigo fabric was used to piece each star; notice the sharp points and precise piecing
cable quilting undulates like waves around all four sides of the quilt and the rest of the quilt is quilted in an incredibly narrow double line grid
washed by hand and in great condition for her age, with just a bit of wear on her trim, a small area with a bit of light marking from the cotton seeds in the batting, and a couple tiny open seams (easily stitched)

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness.
