              Diamond String Quilt
Pattern: Diamond String
Date: c. 1880-1900
Provenance/Notes:
- A stunning quilt — the work of an artist quilter. Each block in this quilt is frameworthy.
- Each block is creatively fitted with little strips of fabrics in all shapes and sizes. Notice that the two or three outer strips are consistently even in each block and then become varied as you approach the center of the block
- The diagonal red sashing provides a lovely surround for the blocks and a wide indigo border with a squiggle print frames the quilt
- The back is a splendid paisley print. Paisleys were very popular in the 1860-1880 era in women’s fashion and therefore often used in quilts.
- A soft and drapey quilt
- Hails from the Shenandoah Valley; maker/origin unknown
- Washed by hand and in great condition with just a few small residual stains, one tiny surface tear, and one small red patch with a bit of wear (see last photo). A couple small and invisible patch repairs.
Measurements: 69” x 70”
15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards supporting the work of an organization in the Shenandoah Valley — the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (EPEC)— a non-profit, community-based agency that was founded in 1977 by a group of community volunteers who wanted to help women who were being abused by their partners. Since then, EPEC has grown into a comprehensive resource and counseling center offering service to the region. For more about their work, please visit www.epecwv.org

Please see www.flyinggeese.co/faqs for more information on shipping.
Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
