Double Nine-Patch Postage Stamp Quilt

$0.00
sold

The most lovingly made Double Nine-Patch quilt, scrappy in her wide variety of fabrics, made with incredible precision and attention. Her tiny squares measure no larger than 3/4 of an inch and her quilting was executed in tiny even stitches. The special mix of seafoam blues, pinks, and browns is delightful, trimmed with a light turquoise border. A quilt that comes with some rare provenance of the maker and recipient. An old typed note that came with the quilt reads:

“This quilt was made by Mrs. W. B. Allan Crestwood Congregation, Prospect, KY in the 1800’s — at least 100 years old.* The pattern is probably a postage stamp design. The quilt was left to Miss Elizabeth A. Hartsfield, Lexington, KY.”

*Note: now much older

In overall very good condition for her age, there is some unevenness in color to the background cream fabric, some very light, residual staining, and two blocks that have some brown squares with wear. A small fold line along a short section. But all of the speaks to her age and history, and is part of her aged beauty. She has been washed by hand and is ready to become a treasure in your collection.

Measurements: 68.5” x 83”

$20 flat rate shipping includes insurance coverage for the full purchase amount.

International customers: If you enter a shipping address outside of the US, you will not be charged for shipping upon checkout. A separate invoice will be sent once shipping is calculated. All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards House of Ruth in Washington DC. Founded in 1976, House of Ruth empowers women, children and families to rebuild their lives and heal from trauma, abuse and homelessness. For more, see their website www.houseofruth.org

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
