Details:
a stunning heirloom-quality quilt featuring some of the most beautiful fabrics of the mid-19th century, with a wonderful mixture of madder browns and prints on light grounds
take a look at the close-ups to see the incredible variety of fabrics the quilter used — a true album of 19th-century textiles
executed by an expert quilter, with crisp piecing and beautiful quilting throughout with floral wreath motifs in the negative spaces and cable quilting around the periphery
a good number of the madder brown fabrics have worn or become fragile over time, with approximately 12–15 of the 72 blocks showing some degree of wear (see the last photo for examples)
gently washed by hand and still suitable for decorative use on a bed, or a wonderful study piece for a lover of 19th-century fabrics
the white background fabric remains quite crisp, with just a touch of residual discoloration in the areas where the quilt was handled most

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
