a beautiful quilt in an unusual colorway, with a wonderful bit of provenance:
Made by Anna Davis Hannan (seated in the second image), who lived at 1 Davis Avenue in Blue Point, NY, on the street named for her father her great-granddaughter. The little girl in the photo is the one who is now passing a few of her quilts to new owners. In her words: “My great grandmother did the top and then sent it to the Appalachian mountains to have the quilting done. The family story is that my dad took it to WWII with him.”
in one small corner of the quilt is a little white fabric tag embroidered with the initials ‘RMH 1940’
a beautiful quilt, with hundreds of tiny white triangles framing a lovely rust-colored fabric dotted with red and white polka dots
the back is a bright red that echoes the red polka dots on the front
an unusual extra-long twin size that also works beautifully draped across the foot of a larger bed
this quilt has been loved and shows the marks of her history, with some light fabric wear in various places, including on the back (see last two photos for examples of wear), a couple of lovely little repairs

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness.
