An incredibly charming House quilt constructed with an exquisite assortment of fabrics and the prettiest striped strawberry red sashing.
Almost half of the 25 houses were created with an indigo fabric, with some stunning calico prints among them, including one with an unusually beautiful dandelion print. Each of the blocks in this quilt deserves its own frame.
There are lots of details that make this quilt so appealing, such as the tiny black dots on the white fabric in the background of the houses and the burgundy fabric with brick-like checkers used for the little chimneys.
Maker/origin unknown
Washed by hand and in very good condition for her age with bits of evidence of a life well lived – some fading to the black dot fabric and a couple areas where the black dots have worn away, two or three small splits in the red sashing fabric and one block with some typical color transfer from the dark fabric used in it. A bit of wear along one side of the trim. One sweet little patch repair. See last two photos.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
