Goose in the Pond Quilt
Pattern: Goose in the Pond
Date: c. 1890-1910
Provenance/Notes:
A superb example of an unexpected transformation of a quilt over time, due to use of fabrics dyed with fugitive dyes. A once tri-color quilt (likely blue, pink, and white) has now changed into a snowy landscape of bright white, dotted with the occasional blue (and almost fully faded light pink) shapes — a triangle here, a rectangle there
The random patches that have retained color draw attention to the intricate pattern of the quilt, constructed with Goose in Pond blocks, as well as to the beautiful quilting throughout
Notice the 6-point stars quilted into each of the blocks. The unpieced blocks are quilted with a large double , with four stars in each of the divided sections, a motif that is echoed in the pieced blocks
Maker/origin unknown
Washed by hand and in excellent condition
Measurements: 66” x 81”
15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards Cerf Plus, an organization that has provided emergency relief for craft artists for the last 40 years. From their mission statement: “Building educational resources to empower craft artists to prepare for, navigate and thrive in the wake of emergencies and disasters, CERF+ remains a dedicated partner and advocate for craft artists and the craft community.” For more, see cerfplus.org

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.A
