Pink: A Wild Goose Chase Among the Stars Quilt

$695.00

Pattern: Wild Goose Chase and Lemoyne Star blocks (overall pattern unknown)

Date: c. 1920-1940

Provenance/Notes:

  • An incredibly beautiful pattern with 900 Flying Geese blocks pieced in quadruple rows, with four Lemoyne stars at each of the intersections

  • The soft rosy pink colorway lends a softness to an otherwise graphic pattern and gives it a quiet presence which allows it to blend beautifully into many color schemes

  • A soft and drapey quilt and generously sized (could be used in either orientation on a bed depending on size of bed and desired drape)

  • Note that the quilter took the quilt top all the way to edges and turned to bind, without the addition of a trim

  • Maker/origin unknown

  • Washed by hand; loved and in very good condition for age, there is a bit of wear/thinning and evidence of handling mostly along the two shorter edges (nothing major, as shown in the last photo) and a couple very light residual stains — see last photo

Measurements: 78” x 97”

15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards supporting the work of the Sewing Society at St. Joseph’s Children’s Home in Louisville, Kentucky, whose members use their sewing skills to raise money for the orphanage, both by creating fundraiser quilts and mending worn items. Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
