Nautilus Quilt

$0.00
sold

The night is long and lean

and I awake again.

Press to ear this chambered shell.

Hear the roar of the shade.

Down deep where whales swell,

where songs are made.

-Gus Peterson / from Nautilus

A wonderful and rare quilt pattern, the Nautilus block on this quilt is full of beautiful swirly movement. So many gorgeous indigo calico fabrics were used against a variety of whites. Study the blocks and you will see that they are made of triangles nested inside of each other — an optical wonder! Her pretty back is made of a white calico fabric with tiny black print. She has been washed by hand and is in great condition, with just one small area that has a little sun or fold fading and a couple very light negligible stains. See photo. She has a touch of extra batting, just enough to make her a lovely, cozy for piece for the cooler months (though still a light quilt). What a wonderful accent she will be in her new home!

Measurements: 72.5” x 76.5”

$20 flat rate shipping includes insurance coverage for the full purchase amount.

All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards Tubman’s Hopetober campaign during domestic violence awareness month. Tubman provides safe shelter, legal services, mental and chemical health counseling, youth programming, and community education throughout the Twin Cities. See tubman.org for more information on their important work.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
