Nest and Fledgling Quilt
Pattern: Nest and Fledgling
Date: c. 1890-1910
Provenance/Notes:
A gorgeous heirloom quality quilt, made by the hands of an expert quilter, changed beautifully by time
Originally all blue and white quilt, the quilter used two different blues, one of which was colored with a fugitive dye and has now almost fully lost its color, leaving a whisper of translucent gray in its place. Look closely and you can see bits of the original dark blue dye in the seams.
The loss of color has given the quilt an unexpectedly playful visual quality
Notice the feathered wreaths intricately stitched in the white spaces and the double row stitching around the border
Maker/origin unknown
In very good condition for her age with just a couple very light residual marks and a few places where there is some light surface wear to the light gray fabric. See last photo.
Measurements: 81” x 82”
15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards supporting the work of the Tahiri Justice Center, a national, nonprofit organization that serves immigrant survivors fleeing gender-based violence, an organization we are now supporting for a third year in a row. Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
