Pattern: Nine Patch

Everything you could want in an indigo-rich Nine Patch quilt from the turn-of-the-century!
Take a look at the variety of indigo calicos throughout the quilt, both in the negative spaces, the border, and the blocks. They have all retained their richness, and their layering adds to their depth.
All the Nine Patch blocks are unified by a red toned center, some bright Turkey red, others a more muted claret.
An incredibly fun assortment of scrappy fabrics were used for the smaller squares, some of them pieced from multiple pieces of fabric.
Notice the beautiful dotted mauve colored back with one brown patch pieced into a corner.
This is a more medium weight quilt, though not heavy, with a lovely soft hand. Quilted in even diagonal lines with black thread.
Maker/origin unknown
Washed by hand and in excellent condition with just one small residual smudge on indigo, hardly noticeable. See last photo.
Measurements: 72” x 91”

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness.
