Oak Leaf Appliqué Quilt

$685.00
SOLD

Pattern: Oak and Reel Appliqué

Date: c. 1850-1870

Provenance/Notes:

  • A gorgeous mid 19th century appliqué quilt with beautiful green organic leaves with red accents

  • Masterfully quilted in a delightfully graphic quilting pattern that radiates from the negative spaces, and draws almost as much attention as the appliqué block themselves.

  • Notice the lovely pattern in the red fabric and the patina on the overdyed green fabric that show traces of the old process of overdyeing yellow fabric with blue dye.

  • Generously sized and ready to add a festive and warm touch your space for the holidays.

  • Maker/origin unknown

  • Washed by hand and in very good condition for her almost 200 years of age; does show some minor signs of love and use with a few tiny places of wear to the red fabric, and some light residual discoloration to parts of the background fabric, but nothing dark at all. See last photo.

Measurements: 77” x 90”

15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards supporting the work of an organization in the Shenandoah Valley — the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (EPEC)— a non-profit, community-based agency that was founded in 1977 by a group of community volunteers who wanted to help women who were being abused by their partners. Since then, EPEC has grown into a comprehensive resource and counseling center offering service to the region. For more about their work, please visit www.epecwv.org

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
