Red Rose Lemoyne Star
Pattern: Lemoyne Star
Date: c. 1860-1880
Provenance/Notes:
A striking, unusual beauty! The most wonderful red and black rose fabric creates a bold lattice pattern across this quilt, while Lemoyne stars in a variety of lovely shirtings quietly fill what feel like the negative spaces.
From afar, this quilt almost reads like a two-tone quilt in red and cream. Come closer and you start admiring the details.
Signed along a back edge in pen — George B. Cooke
A romantic accent for your space, and a perfect quilt for an antique fabric lover.
Maker/origin unknown; hails from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia
Washed by hand and structurally in excellent condition with some residual discoloration to the light fabric in the star blocks and back, a few little stains, and a few sweet little patch repairs. See last two photos.
Measurements: 72” x 76”
15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards supporting the work of an organization in the Shenandoah Valley — the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (EPEC)— a non-profit, community-based agency that was founded in 1977 by a group of community volunteers who wanted to help women who were being abused by their partners. Since then, EPEC has grown into a comprehensive resource and counseling center offering service to the region. For more about their work, please visit www.epecwv.org
SHIPPING: $20 flat rate shipping includes insurance coverage for the full purchase amount. Price for smaller items have been adjusted (lowered) to account for the lower shipping cost. Taxes will be added only to Virginia state orders. Orders shipped to destinations outside of Virginia are not taxed.
International customers: If you enter a shipping address outside of the US, you will not be charged for shipping upon checkout. A separate invoice will be sent once shipping is calculated. If you need a shipping estimate, please reach out ahead of time. Orders may be subject to VAT/customs fee of the destination country. Please see www.flyinggeese.co/faqs for more information on shipping.
Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
