A subtle and soothing scrappy beauty, reminscent of rocky cliffsides and ocean waves.
An understated but incredibly varied mix of fabrics in shades of blue, indigo, gray, and black were used in this quilt. Take a look at some of the close-ups to enjoy the details in the fabrics, both in the darker and lighter pieces within each of the blocks. Note the lovely mourning grays and blacks.
The double line fan quilting creates a surface of undulating waves over the more jagged edges of the Rocky Road blocks
A dotted indigo frames brings out all the blues in the body of the quilt

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness.
