Blue House in Spring Quilt
Pattern: House
Date: c. 1890-1900
Provenance/Notes:
A wonderful late 19th century house quilt with 42 lovely indigo house blocks against the sweetest double pink fabric
The softness of the pink and the earthy cool of the indigo create an elegant contrast of light and shadow. This quilt is like stepping out from winter hibernation to springtime cherry blossoms in bloom.
Beautifully pieced and quilted, this is an unusual House quilt in a larger size that will cover a queen sized bed nicely.
Maker/origin unknown
Washed by hand and in very good condition for her age. Main thing to note is that there is some very light residual staining on two of the corner blocks of the quilt. Otherwise just a bit of fading here and there, and one tiny surface hole along the trim.
A special quilt in a coveted pattern for your bed and for your collection!
Measurements: 79” x 85”
15% of profits from every quilt sale in this collection will go towards Housing Families First, an organization in Richmond, VA that helps families resolve their homelessness through crisis response, community housing, and youth housing programs. Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
