Star of Stars Quilt
Pattern: Star of Stars
Date: c. 1870-1880
Provenance/Notes:
Her name truly suits her beauty — a star of stars she is with her gorgeous eight-point center made up of over 1,300 diamonds in a rainbow of 19th century colors, and the incredibly special stars that dance around her periphery.
The distribution of color in this quilt is so beautifully done, one could spend hours appreciating her composition and design.
Among many details, notice the green points at the end of each star, the fussy cut flowers in some of the diamond rings, and the alternating dark and light between each row of diamonds.
The surrounding red stars are made of the most beautiful fabric, lush with a print of fruit and flowers.
Notice that the background fabric in the corner change to a candy cane stripe
Her back is made of bleached feed sack fabrics. A few traces of letters remain on edges.
A lovely medium weight
Maker/origin unknown
Washed by hand and in excellent condition with just some light residual discoloration on some of the lighter ground around the edges; one small place where applique has come loose. See last photo.
Measurements: 74” x 75”
15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards supporting the work of an organization in the Shenandoah Valley — the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (EPEC)— a non-profit, community-based agency that was founded in 1977 by a group of community volunteers who wanted to help women who were being abused by their partners. Since then, EPEC has grown into a comprehensive resource and counseling center offering service to the region. For more about their work, please visit www.epecwv.org

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
