Summer Strawberry Courthouse Steps Quilt

$0.00
sold

Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean -
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down -
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.

-Mary Oliver / from The Summer Day

Striking and beautiful in her simplicity, yet only deceptively simple given the immense labor that went into each ‘step’ and quilting, this quilt is an heirloom beauty to cherish. Though roughly around a century old, she is incredibly modern in her graphic qualities. Her color scheme is that of summer strawberries and grasshopper wings, the crisp white adding an element of freshness — she’s lovely paired with white sheets and pillowcases. But she would also transition seamlessly into the fall and into the winter holidays with her rich red tones. She’s pleasingly textural with her diagonal double line quilting against the contrasting directionality of her blocks. Her bright red trim is the perfect finishing accent on this quilt. She is in excellent condition, just a couple tiny very light marks and hidden repairs, and has been thoroughly washed by hand and hung to dry. She awaits her new owner!

Measurements: 74” x 92”

PLEASE SELECT SHIPPING FOR QUILT ($20), NOT FOR A SMALL QUILT PIECE ($10). ORDER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHIP OTHERWISE.

All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards House of Ruth — an organization in DC that supports women (and their children) who are victims of domestic violence.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
