Pattern: Swallows in the Window variation
Date: c. 1910-1920
Provenance/Notes:
A gorgeous, scrappy variation on the Swallows in the Window pattern, with the addition of a Lemoyne star in the center of each block
A beautiful, fun mix of fabrics within each block, with creamy pink triangles (pink gingham ones along one row) surrounded by a variety of printed fabrics, including indigos, greys, reds, and greens
The background has faded to a soft blue, the color of a lightly overcast day, and is graphically quilted with lines that echo the offset blocks
A natural muslin back with a great texture
Maker and origin unknown
Washed by hand and in great condition with just one block with a bit of light dye transfer from a brown fabric that was not colorfast (see last photo)
Measurements: 64” x 83”

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness.
