"Three Sisters" Quilt

$425.00
sold

Pattern: Unknown, possibly a variation on the Seven Sisters pattern

Date: c. 1930-1940

Provenance/Notes:

  • A gorgeous pattern of triangular blocks filled with three 6-point stars, made from a colorful variety of prints from the 1930-1940s, many of them fabrics repurposed from feed sacks

  • A warm apricot orange background creates a beautiful backdrop for the star blocks; the back was made with a cheerful floral fabric

  • This is a quilt that has been loved and is soft and cozy to the touch

  • Maker and origin unknown

  • Washed by hand and in loved condition, with some surface fabric wear mostly along edges, a worn trim, and a few little stains. 7 out of the 63 blocks have a bit of wear on the star fabrics. A couple patch repairs on border made with period fabric. See last photo.

Measurements: 66” x 76”

15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards supporting the work of the Sewing Society at St. Joseph’s Children’s Home in Louisville, Kentucky, whose members use their sewing skills to raise money for the orphanage, both by creating fundraiser quilts and mending worn items. For more on their wonderful work, see https://sjkids.org/get-involved/sewing-society/

SHIPPING: $20 flat rate shipping includes insurance coverage for the full purchase amount. Price for smaller items have been adjusted (lowered) to account for the lower shipping cost. Taxes will be added only to Virginia state orders. Orders shipped to destinations outside of Virginia are not taxed.

International customers: If you enter a shipping address outside of the US, you will not be charged for shipping upon checkout. A separate invoice will be sent once shipping is calculated. If you need a shipping estimate, please reach out ahead of time. Orders may be subject to VAT/customs fee of the destination country. Please see www.flyinggeese.co/faqs for more information on shipping.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
