Triangles Quilt
Pattern: Triangles (or Pyramids)
Date: c. 1890-1900
Provenance/Notes:
A gorgeous distribution of a wide assortment of period fabrics (with no repetition?) framed in a beautiful wide claret border
Back and trim made of a chestnut gingham fabric
Thick and weighty with diagonal quilting which creates a lovely ribbed texture
Hails from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia; maker/origin unknown
In excellent condition structurally, just three blue-toned blocks that were not colorfast and caused a light touch of transfer, a few tiny residual spots, and one block with a bit of discoloration (see last two photos)
Washed by hand
Measurements: 70” x 81”

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness.
