Tumbling Blocks Quilt
Pattern: Tumbling Blocks Variation
Date: c. 1880-1890
Provenance/Notes:
Good things come in threes, or so they say, and it is certainly true of this quilt. An incredible work of textile art, with the sweetest variation on the Tumbling Blocks pattern — a trio of cubes in each block.
A great assortment of scrappy fabrics are mixed into the faces of each of the blocks. Look at some of the close-up images to see the pinstripe red fabric in the background of each stack.
A rich, micro-checkerboard patterned fabric in red and black make up the background of this quilt, and the back is a primitive homespun plaid. The trim is a contrasting floral.
A medium weight quilt with warmth for the colder months, and an even batting that allows her to lay beautifully flat on a wall.
Quilted in an undulating fan pattern throughout with black thread, and rounded corners to give her a soft edge. (Notice the little patch detail in two of the opposing corners.)
A beautiful accent for the holiday season whether on bed, sofa, or wall.
Maker/origin unknown
Washed by hand and in excellent condition with just three or four tiny pinhead holes and a touch of surface wear here and there on her trim. See last photo.
Measurements: 73” x 77”
15% of profits from every quilt sale in this next collection will go towards supporting the work of an organization in the Shenandoah Valley — the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (EPEC)— a non-profit, community-based agency that was founded in 1977 by a group of community volunteers who wanted to help women who were being abused by their partners. Since then, EPEC has grown into a comprehensive resource and counseling center offering service to the region. For more about their work, please visit www.epecwv.org

Please see www.flyinggeese.co/faqs for more information on shipping.
Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
