Blue Green Triangles Crib Quilt
Pattern: Triangles
Date: c. 1880-1900
Provenance/Notes:
This incredible 19th century crib quilt glimmers with the colors of a natural winter landscape. The beautiful fading of the blue triangles over time have rendered them a watercolor variety of greenish blue shades.
Notice the lovely white triangles in between that are printed with a little black motif that look like leaves or feathers.
Upon study, one sees that the quilter made some decisions to add visual interest and movement to the quilt through some subtle asymmetrical design choices. A few of the vertical rows on the edges were made with plain white triangles (instead of the printed triangles in the majority of the quilt) and the border was made with an indigo calico fabric with strips of white placed in different positions on each edge.
Fitted with a pole sleeve, this quilt is a stunning piece to decorate a wall. Her colors bring the colors of the outside to the indoors.
Quilted with double lines on the diagonal
Maker/origin unknown
Washed gently by hand and in good condition with just 5-6 blue triangles with some wear, some fading in places, and some light residual discoloration to the lighter triangles (see last photo) — all bumps and bruises that add to the beauty of this quilt.
Measurements: 32” x 38”

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.
Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
