White and Blue Window Quilt

$685.00
sold

A magical quilt with a scrappy quality that comes from both the whimsical variation on a few of her blocks, as well as the fabric that was used to create all the white spaces in the quilt. Several different types of striped fabrics were used on the reverse to create the white areas. When held up to the light, the bright colors on the inside shine through, creating the most beautiful stained glass window effect. The chambray blue seems to have come from two different batches of fabric as there is a slight variation, which lends the quilt more visual interest. This quilt is beautifully quilted and pieced. She has a wonderful hand and would be great to use as a bed cover, or fold by the side or in a stack. Or how about hanging her in the window using the pole sleeve sewn along her top edge? The back is beautiful with a better visual of the broad colorful stripes used on the front of the quilt. Washed by hand and in excellent condition with just one tiny seam opening that can easily be tacked and a tiny surface hole on back.

Measurements: 71” x 77”

NOTE: All items purchased between August 8 - 15 will not ship till after August 16.

Included with this quilt is a hardcover copy of Sophie Blackall’s picture book Farmhouse.

$20 flat rate shipping includes insurance coverage for the full purchase amount.

International customers: If you enter a shipping address outside of the US, you will not be charged for shipping upon checkout. A separate invoice will be sent once shipping is calculated. If you need a shipping estimate, please reach out ahead of time. Tax will be added only to Virginia state orders. Orders shipped to destinations outside of Virginia are not taxed.

All quilts come with a muslin tag noting any known history, and an archival Micron pen for you to add yours.

15% of profits from this sale will go towards scholarships at Milkwood Farm, a creative retreat for the children’s book community, run by author and illustrator Sophie Blackall, author of “Farmhouse” and many other wonderful, acclaimed children’s books.

Note on antique/vintage quilts: Many of the quilts we sell have been loved, slept under, washed, sunshine dried, taken on picnics, slept on underneath the stars, and lived lifetimes before arriving at our doorstep. You can expect to see repairs made by later generations, fraying around the edges or in certain blocks, discoloration or yellowing, cotton/wool batting—or as we like to call them, tiny sheep—peeking through. They are imperfect, but their imperfections are charming to us and we hope you feel the same. They are reminders to us of their old age and the history to which they've been a witness. We try our best to note any imperfections, but it’s possible we might miss one here and there. Well-crafted, handmade antique quilts in their original form are becoming scarcer, and we believe it's vital that we preserve them and continue to love them, imperfections and all.

Because these quilts are one-of-a-kind and we are a tiny enterprise, we do not accept returns; please review all photos and the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
